TERRACES IN PRIMROSE HILL LONDON - 1969 I lived in the caretaker's cottage to the Anglican church of St Mary-the-Virgin, in Primrose Hill, north London. St Mary's church hall and cottage were inserted within a late C19th block of Georgian terraces, which meant that the cottage's garden faced a wall of building.
FARMHOUSE IN NORMANDY FRANCE - 1969 An eccentric group of farm buildings in Normandy France, which together form a picturesque composition of roofs, towers, windows, dovecotes and surfaces. This sketch was done during an autumn 1969 tour to France, Portugal and Spain.
FARM COMPLEX IN GRANADA SPAIN - 1969 The farm buildings of Granada, are built of local stone, and are usually grouped around an internal courtyard, which houses humans, stock, and produce. I loved the eccentric forms of the various buildings, and the patterns of light and shade.
ECHENGEBLA MOROCCO - 1969 This family compound in Morocco housed an extended family, stock, provisions and garden within a walled pise or rammed earth enclosure. I was invited to stay with the family for a week during the drenching rains and flooding that swept Morocco early in 1969.
